An Intimate Crowd Greets JINJER at the Rev.

July 10, 2026     Thank god for air conditioning. This time around it was nice to cover a show indoors where it remained cool for the duration of the show. Outside it was 100+ degrees, welcome to summer concerts. Tonight's show took place at the Revolution Concert House in Garden City,ID(Basically Boise) We had a solid line up of bands with Entheos opening the night Crystal Lake bringing up the middle and then JINJER taking it to the finish on their North American Duél Tour. It was a pretty small crowd for this venue but with the number of big shows going on in the valley I was not terribly surprised. 

    I had no idea what to expect when Entheos from Santa Cruz, CA  took the stage. I was delightfully surprised and for tonight's show I have to say they were probably my favorite performance. Not that the others didn’t stand out. There was just something about the emotion and intensity of lead singer Chaney Crabb that stuck with me. She is an absolute force up there on stage. The power in her vocals can send a shiver down the spine of even the strongest human. Supported by her husband and drummer Navene Koperveis with Scott Carstairs on guitar and Michael Stancel also on guitar. Together this band leaves it all on the stage. I was really impressed with their performance.
     Next from the other side of the pacific we had Crystal Lake from Japan. This five piece band was also loaded with energy. Everyone of the members had a spectacular stage presence. From climbing on the kick drum to the headbangs they did not stop moving during their entire set time.  Gaku Taura  the drummer for the band seems to be having the time of his life playing up there. Not only did he sound great, his showmanship was top notch. I couldn't help but laugh and smile as I was sorting through their pictures from the night. He definitely stood out to me. 

    At this point in the night we had all the fans we were going to have. Enough for a mosh pit and even one random crowd surfer later in the event. Though it was a smaller crowd they had enough energy to fill the room like it was a full house. Not so much as to overwhelm the AC thankfully. They were all ready for JINJER to walk the stage and so was I. This was my second time seeing JINJER live. Last time though, I unfortunately missed a portion of their set. So I was excited to see the full set and shoot photos from inside the barricade.
     I was unsure what to expect from this set. Last time they played in support of Trivium which meant a little less space on stage. They kept the production simple emphasising the video boards and the musicianship of the band and Tatiana Shmayluk who came out on stage dressed as a warrior clad in a tunic of chainmail. Not really chainmail though, I couldn't imagine or want to perform in real chainmail. There is something about the way Tatiana is able to effortlessly go from deep growling vocals to soothing clean vocals. It’s fascinating and impressive. It was that way last fall and still is now. Aside from that and the visuals, it was pretty sedated for me. It was a mellow straight forward show. The video boards reminded me of when I used to tinker with the Windows Media Player Visualizer but way better. Each animation would be linked to the content of the song and designed to support music of their most recent album Duél. Shout out to the creator/s of these animations. They were absolutely stunning. I spent a portion of my time watching them and drummer Vladislav Ulasevich. The way the big board and the boards for the drum riser were aligned made it seem like he was floating mid air. It was distracting in a good way.
     This show all together was a great show. It was like the metal world cup, 3 bands, 3 countries and 3 continents. They all had impressive sets even if there were times it was a bit straight forward. Seeing the amazing Entheos for the first time and Crystal Lake for the first time both bands left it all out there onstage. JINJER keeping it simple while remaining dynamic both musically and visually. This is a great tour and it should not be missed and I'm not 100% sure what I saw for JINJER was the entire package so there may still be more to be seen at the next shows.
